after a grueling first half of my wedding season, i am still alive and well! we finally had our baby girl on july 9th, almost 2 weeks late, now everyone is home, healthy, and most of us happy we are also frantically packing to move in just over 3 weeks… what a whirlwind of a summer it’s been! i’ve neglected my blogging with everything going on, so here’s a quick post from sonia and sumit’s sangeet held on june 25th in woodbridge! i will post pics from their other two events as soon as i can… we’re off this weekend to the sunny south, yogi bear campground to be exact to enjoy some relaxation, sun, and family fun!

jenn and blaine – elmhirst resort wedding

jenn and blaine are an absolutely amazing couple! i had so much fun with the two of them during their engagement shoot and at their rain filled wedding day… jenn’s dream was to have her ceremony outside on the deck at elmhirst resort… unfortunately she had to make a last minute decision to have it indoors due to the terrential downpour that was going on outside. on a brighter note, she was dead set on having a shot of all of the guests on the same deck as where the ceremony was supposed to be, and for a moment we didn’t think it was possible… but then the rain held up just long enough for us to get it done! i was so happy i was able to get that one shot for her, that meant so much!

their wedding was one of the most intimate affairs i’ve ever had the chance to witness… it was amazing listening to the speeches during dinner and realizing just how truly amazing jenn and blaine are… i knew this from dealing with them on several occasions.. but to hear everyone else just reconfirm how i felt about them was truly amazing.

there were so many obstacles to overcome on their wedding day, with the rain, being in the middle of nowhere, ontario.. but when you have a truly amazing couple like these two… it doesn’t matter where you are or what the weather is like, it will be amazing anyways!

guys, i had a truly incredible time with you and your families on your wedding day, and i wish you all the best in life!!! and maybe one day i can afford to go to switzerland to watch you play Blaine!!!

years ago, when i started my business, i remember talking to a good friend of mine about photography, and he told me that he would never become a ‘professional photographer’ because it would leave him not wanting to shoot for personal reasons anymore… as busy as we are, as wedding photographers, especially this time of year, it’s nice to still be able to pull out the camera, and have fun shooting for ourselves, and not just because it’s contracted. i always told myself that i would never lose my love for photography, even when i’m out shooting for business almost every day now, i still take the time to go for a drive and shoot, or bring my camera with me to different events, just to capture my son growing up, or document where we’ve been.

i’m beginning to think that photography for me, is becoming more of an addiction, than a passion.. meaning i can hardly leave my house without taking at least some, if not all of my gear with me. when we travel as a family, or i go out of town by myself, i always take my gear with me, even if it means getting turned around at the canada/us border… this past winter, a border agent working for the united states, couldn’t believe that i would actually go on a 4 day family vacation to vermont, and take over 20 grand in camera gear with me. it was hard to explain to him the reasons for this as he didn’t understand my passion, but after being turned around and sent back to canada to register all my gear with the government, i was finally allowed back into the u.s. the most comical part of that whole experience was that the u.s. border patrol expressed to me that i could very well be bringing my gear across to sell it on ebay…. i guess that’s because we don’t have ebay or computers in canada..

sometimes i think i’d like to just sit back and take generic family pics while we’re on vacation, but that will never happen. ask my wife if you don’t believe me, i remember being in the states last year, and she wanted me to take some cheesy picture of my son on a giant chair at letchworth state park, i tried to avoid it, but when i finally agreed to do it, i had to run back to the truck and get my off cam lighting.. you know, just because it has to be perfect! she gets so annoyed with me sometimes but when we print the pictures and hang them up, she thanks me for how i’ve been able to capture her baby boy!

this summer we have jaxsen playing lacrosse,baseball, and will start soccer the end of this summer.. i love being able to go out and watch him do these things, and i pretty much always have my camera with me during these events…. some parents with their little p/s cameras look at me as if to say ‘ a little overkill, no? ‘ but they never do…..

Aleksandra + Max – Nestleton Waters Inn Wedding

the beginning of this month yielded extremely nice weather… not so much lately, as i sit and write this blog post, it’s pouring rain outside, and feels more like the moth of april than anything! a+m’s wedding was an incredible day! the sun was shining and must have been close to or above 30 degrees… so nice for such a small intimate wedding at the inn. it was so nice to be able to shoot such an intimate event close to home… so intimate, i was even cohersed by the grooms mother for a dance later in the evening.

the inn put on a beautiful event for max, alexs, and their family, along with the help of claudia kent and her assistant, dj baroque from surround sound dj, and the caterers from octaviens!

congrats again guys, it was a blast!

Rakhee + Rick Engagement Shoot

This is going to be about as random as it gets! I’m in full blown wedding season, and doing engagement shoots most midweek days. i’m currently applying for an award for the title ‘blog slacker’ i feel that i am most deserving of this award with my negligence for updating my blog. here’s an update of what’s going on in my life… i have shot 7 weddings so far this year since my official season started, and have another 39 to go!! we are still awaiting the arrival of baby number 2.. any day now hopefully, and are also in the process of possibly moving, but that’s a whole other story.. games with realtors is my latest favourite thing to do in my spare time!

so here goes a quick blog post from a recent engagement shoot with an absolutely incredible couple, who are actually going through a lot of similar things to myself right now, minus the whole baby thing rakhee and rick will be married on the 9th of july, at the end of several days of events leading up to the actual wedding day! i am so excited to shoot their wedding, we all connected so well the first time we met, back last fall… and the day is almost approaching! here are just a handful of the images i quickly chose just to keep you all up to date on what i’ve been up to… enjoy!

mandie + dan wedding

mandie, dan, and i met a couple of years back when they first got engaged with no initial wedding plans in the foreseeable future, so we hooked up and did an engagement shoot for them. dan immediately fell in love with my sarcastic sense of humor, as his was very similar then about a year ago, they contacted me with plans to get married in jamaica in or around january of 2010. was i excited? absolutely! … then when i found out that they were having a local wedding, i was just as excited, but in a different cold rainy kind of way, not so much in a beach, sun, drinks on the beach kind of way.

i will leave the long story short for the photos part.. sorry, but there’s a wack of them, i just couldn’t stop… during the wedding day, dan.. the groom, is a tough toronto firefighter now, so photos weren’t as important to him as they were to his bride… that is until, i started to send him some on facebook.. then the emails start coming in wondering when he can see the rest of them, end result – dan wants them more than mandie.. who is just as excited, but will patiently wait for her wedding images

i had an incredible time photographing their cold and rainy may wedding, the entire bridal party was an absolute pleasure to work with, and i know i’ll be seeing more of these guys in the future! an incredible wedding for an absolutely amazing couple! hold your breath.. here we go!

my time is very valuable and flying by these days.. i’m in a swarm of engagement shoots for upcoming 2010 weddings, 2011 weddings, and trying to get everything caught up as my new baby will likely be here in less than a month!!!! i can’t believe how fast the time has flown by with this pregnancy.. i haven’t felt a thing last week i had the pleasure to hook up with sonia again, and meet her fiance.. sumit! their huge 3 day indian wedding will be taking place right around the time that my wife is due with our second child… so i’m desperately hoping the next baby arrives a couple weeks early just like jaxsen did, or i will be one sad wedding photographer if my wife’s in labour and i’m shooting a wedding… so lets hope that doesn’t happen!

about a year ago, sonia made the trek from her geographical surroundings to my little house in the country.. or so she would have called it.. it’s not richmond hill, but it’s home to me! we immediately connected, and i knew this wedding was going to be an amazing adventure for all of us.. it’s late, and i have golf in the morning, so here’s a quick post from their session.. can’t wait for the wedding guys!

i have so many blog posts to update and again, i’m having trouble trying to find the time to do it.. in between trying to get my taxes all finished up from 2009, new weddings, albums, engagement shoots, and so on.. so here’s jenn and blaine! i slipped up during the shoot and called them jane and blenn.. they say it happens to them all the time, so i didn’t feel tooo too bad jenn, blaine, and i headed north for their shoot, as they told me they’re outdoorsey people… and love nature. so we headed up towards lindsay, which is a far cry from the type of scenery they see during the hockey season… why you ask? because blaine plays for switzerland in one of their elite hockey clubs, and spends his winter months over there playing hockey and enjoying the breathtaking scenery… accompanied most of the time by his beautiful bride to be! without further adieu, here are a few pics from their e shoot. can’t wait for the wedding guys!

My lil’ boy is all growin up..

the weather this spring has been so unpredictable, just like our winter i guess.. but my wife at 7 months pregnant decided to have jax’s 3rd birthday party outdoors at a local farm. we drove past the found family farm a week prior to the party, and i have to admit, i wasn’t overly enthused about having his bday party there, however, it turned out to be an incredible day! the weather not so much… days leading up to the party were close to and over 20 degrees celsius, absolutely amazing weather for this time of year, but for his party, they were calling for rain and 6 degrees…. brrrr. thank God, the rain held off, and it was just a bit windy with some sunny breaks! i’m not sure about the other parents that came out for the event, but i had a great time.. i think there were 19 kids there for the party, an educational, fun birthday party. the lady affectionately known as the ‘farmers wife’, mrs. found, was so pleasant with the kids, and did an incredible job! hayride, cow milking, holding baby chics, baby pigs, games, good food, family and friends made my little guys 3rd birthday party one to remember… and of course there’s nothing like a couple of photographers running around snapping pics of all the kids to make it more interesting.. my good buddy jay from jamiesondean photography came to the party, so at least i didn’t feel like the only paparazzi there.. for once.

if you live in the durham region, i would proudly recommend this place for a kids birthday party, i will speak for everyone, even the kids, when i say that a great time was had by all!

today is my 34th birthday, and my son was born just over 3 years ago now.. the past 3 years have been all about change for my family, raising a little boy, loving every minute of my wedding photography business, mentoring others in the industry, learning from some of my mentors, and continuing to grow and learn, and soon i will be a father of 2! I wouldn’t give up my life for the world right now, I love God, my family, my friends, and my business… and it’s taken 34 years for me to get to this point in my life, and there’s no place to go but forward. this weekend marks the official beginning of my 2010 wedding season, with just over 40 weddings this year, it’s going to be a great season! i truly have been blessed with my business, and with some of the most amazing clients any type of business could possibly hope for… so here we go, lets kick off the 2010 wedding season with a bang… this saturday the ever amazing Zena and Dennis! and a huge happy birthday and hugs to my best little friend in the world… jaxsen, who turned 3 on saturday!!!
